Jeff has given us an updated Exile 3 game with plenty of content. Good writing, and extensive lands to explore make this game a CRPG epic. I was able to finish the game in chunks, putting it down and picking it back up again. It wasn't too hard to get back into the story and where I was at. As with all of the Avernum games, it is open world letting me wander to higher level areas if I wanted to. Learning the hard way that an area is deadly is something I enjoy. Very little hand holding, and that is a good thing. Thank you, Jeff, for staying consistent and good job on another great game!. Quite possibly the best of the three remakes to date. Though not perfect, Spiderweb again dileivers deep story, moral choice, and solid mechanics in a deceptively complex RPG that old school fans are going to love. There is no "wrong way" to play, and every party combination is viable. I myself just beat the game on Hard without any magic casters or priests, which is a very extreme way to play. There is the issue of 'eye candy', and even I would have to agree that the sprite sheet graphic style is simply too old for modern day. Sprites can still work, of course, but they need to be higher definition, and possess more variety than Avernum and Spiderweb's old engine can currently deliver. Still, the solid gameplay, lack of bugs, and wide range of player liberty, more than makes up for it. If you turn down this game because of the graphics, you are doing yourself a blatant disservice.. Well I really enjoyed this game, took me 71 hrs to beat it! a huge world lots to explore, well worth the price. great old school RPG, graphics are simple but work in the context of this kind of game, descriptions of places and events are well done and bring to life what the graphics don't. will be interested to see what kind of games spiderweb will be bringing out with the new game engine that they are working on.. Absolutely my favorite of the Avernum series. If you're into old-school RPGs then you'll enjoy this little gem for sure. Highly recommended.. I have loved this game for years! Still playing it to this day. I even have my original receipt for the original.. This....is a TREE!5/7, game of the year.. I've only had a chance to play a short amount so far (about an hour or so) but this is exactly what I was hoping for. The maps are nearly identical from what I can tell from Exile.If you're looking for nostalgia factor, this game will give it to you.Buy this game!. The third romp through Valorim and still a blast. More faithful to the original (Exile 3) than the last time, better mechanics and streamlined interface don't hurt either. Still miss the 6 character party and the ability to do your own alchemy, but it's probably better this way overall.. I only recommend this game if you liked the first one so much you needed another 100 hours of it at a quarter of the quality. It's essentially the same game with a lot of the positives augmented in such a way that it feels burdensome.Negatives based on getting 2/3 of the endings in the first game (No Spoilers):- There's almost no story. You're sent out to explore and the overall goal is vague and has no sense of urgency. - Money is plentiful which destroys any strategy related to resource management- The Map is too big - which would be fine if there was better ways to travel and the towns were more unique. - Dialog is often re-used and the conversation choices of what to ask NPCs feel like they never went past a first draft- Nature Lore is a dumb mechanic and so are many of the skills which are never entirely explained. - "Dispel Barrier" is incredibly frustrating - by the time I got the spell to open these "doors" I had made notes of about 20-25 places I had to go back to to make sure I didn't miss any items that were game-changing. - Many necessary items are easy to miss b/c the graphics are so poor- the creator should realize this and put them out in the middle of the screen. There was many times where I nearly missed something hidden behind a wall. - Theres a point in the "Filth Factory" where it's very easy to miss a major plot mission that it's impossible to go back to- Too many missions with no way to organize them. At time of writing I must honestly have 40 quests, some of which I will never complete because it turns out they lower my reputation stat... so i just reload prior to handing it in and now it's stuck there. Forever. - Even more broken than the first game, its often not entirely clear when you've finished a quest and/or where you have to go to hand it in. There's over a 100 towns and by half way through i needed an online resource to find where on the map the city i had to go to was. - I don't know what they did with Bows but they're incredibly overpowered. I often found myself killing enemies in 1 shot. its really sad, this game really could have been something great but it feels like a first draft
